This is an R&D role focused on interfacing our solutions with customers, helping our Product and Engineering teams optimize how our solution is deployed in customer environments. The position provides valuable insights into complex deployment scenarios and guides us in improving customer implementations.

 

A day in the life of a Senior Network Engineer

Network Design, Implementation & Management

  • Design, configure, and manage enterprise network infrastructure including LAN, WAN, WLAN, VPN, and cloud-based networks.

  • Support network integration with cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), including hybrid and multi-cloud architectures.

  • Perform network capacity planning, bandwidth analysis, and performance tuning based on customer usage patterns and projected growth.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including cybersecurity and IT operations, to ensure secure and scalable network architectures.

Configuration, Troubleshooting & Optimization

  • Configure and troubleshoot routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and other networking hardware and software.

  • Monitor network performance and proactively identify, diagnose, and resolve issues to ensure optimal uptime and reliability.

  • Stay current with networking technologies, protocols, and standards (e.g., BGP, OSPF, MPLS, SD-WAN) and recommend improvements where applicable.

Security & Compliance

  • Implement and enforce network security policies, access controls, and segmentation to safeguard data and critical systems.

  • Collaborate with security teams to align network infrastructure with compliance and cybersecurity best practices.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Develop and maintain detailed network diagrams and topology maps to support design decisions and troubleshooting activities.

  • Document network configurations, change management procedures, and customer-specific support materials.

Customer Engagement & Managed Services

  • Interface directly with customers to understand networking requirements, provide technical support, and deliver tailored network solutions.

  • Assist in onboarding and supporting managed network services, ensuring excellent customer experience and service-level compliance.

  • Networking protocols: TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, EIGRP

  • Firewall and security: Cisco ASA, Fortinet, Palo Alto

  • Switching and routing: VLANs, STP, NAT, subnetting

  • Network hardware: Routers, switches, access points, firewalls

  • Wireless networking: 802.11 standards, site surveys, Wi-Fi troubleshooting

  • Monitoring tools: Wireshark, Nagios, SolarWinds, PRTG

  • Cloud networking: AWS, Azure, Google Cloud (VPCs, security groups, VPNs)

  • Basic scripting: Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automation tasks

  • Configuration management: Familiarity with tools like Ansible

  • CompTIA: Network+, Security+

  • Juniper: JNCIA, JNCIS

  • Fortinet: NSE certifications
